The Traffic Enforcement Unit is part of the Uniformed Patrol Division and consists of one Lieutenant, three Sergeants, and six Officers. The unit is equipped with a specialized traffic enforcement vehicle, electronic traffic signs, handheld and mobile radar units, and two speed-monitoring trailers.
The mission of the Traffic Enforcement Unit is to serve the community by enforcing the motor vehicle laws of the Commonwealth and reducing the number and severity of traffic collisions within the town. Many of the unit’s enforcement initiatives are implemented in direct response to community concerns regarding speeding and other traffic violations. The ultimate goal is to enhance traffic safety for motorists, bicyclists, and pedestrians alike.
Officers assigned to the Traffic Enforcement Unit receive specialized training to effectively carry out their responsibilities. This training includes radar and lidar operation, collision investigation, collision reconstruction, and child car seat installation.
